December 8, 2010

Tis the season for holiday portraits! Photo greeting cards a great way to reconnect with friends & family. They offer a great way to send your wishes while showing everyone how the kids have grown. Looking for an updated batch of family photos for their Christmas cards, Barrett and Tamera brought Cole and Caine up for fun-filled studio shoot.

A Day to Mentor – Steve Smith Photography & Chance

March 12, 2010

Going through the motions of high school can have a stimulating glimpse into the limitless vision off future careers. However, at the same time, students can be completely overwhelmed and taken back by what the world has to offer. Fortunately, many schools take the liberty of encouraging students to get out and spend some time in a field that may interest them. Cascade High School is one such establishment that encouraged students to focus in more closely on jobs that may draw their attention. One such student named Chance, inquired to see if we would be willing to talk to her a little about the trade that we so dearly love. For us, this was a wonderful opportunity to provide a little mentoring and insight into the day-to-day life as commercial photographers. For Chance, it was most likely a bit overwhelming but we hope to have helped her to at least have a better sense of whether or not this might be a career that she would really like to pursue in the future.

We felt that it would be most beneficial to show Chance an abbreviated yet comprehensive take on what a shoot was like for us from start to finish. We started with camera gear (lenses, cameras, strobes, etc.) followed by the importance of understanding make-up and styling and ended with some direction and posing tips. To make the package complete, we had chance do a little posing to feel what is was like being on the other side of everything. We hope that she enjoyed the morning. We sure had a great time sharing our knowledge.

Here’s a few of our favorite photos of Chance.

Best of luck with your future Chance!

Photo Session with the Burnett Girls

June 26, 2009

More and more, families are looking get out of the studio for their yearly portraits in an effort to spice things up. I love getting out to shoot people in this beautiful city that I call home. Boise offers countless settings to add a little flavor to your family or solo photos. Long time friends of mine, Carma and Bridgett called me up to mix up their usual yearly studio shots. They opted for the lively downtown spread of Boise as their backdrop. I had a blast photographing them. Here’s a few of my favorite shots.
